ROTW – Desmond Decker and the Aces – Israelites

Contrary to recent evidence, 1979 wasn’t the only year that good music was released on vinyl. This week’s record topped the charts in the UK back in 1968, one of the first Jamaican reggae hits outside of the country and the first to breach the top 10 in the US. One listen to Desmond Decker‘s timeless rudeboy ska classic (it’s compulsory for me to use the term “classic” in every ROTW post ‘cos I ain’t sharin’ no rubbish) and it’s easy to understand why. Released on the “Pyramid” label the B-side is the instrumental, “The Man” by Beverly’s All Stars. I nabbed this single form my Mum & Dad’s collection years ago, just when they were moving out of their skinhead phase and into Glam Rock.

Skank it up!
